This is what traditional black metal should sound like! Unlike many newer bands who try to emulate the sound of Darkthrone, Azaghal opts to go with an old Mayhem flavor. First of all, the production of the work is top notch, for this style of metal; it has a good sense of clarity that allows for each instrument to be properly heard while still maintaining the cold, dark sound that fans of the Black Circle enjoy. Musically, these guys pretty much follow more or less along the lines of Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", yet they also manage incorporate their own original ideas into the mix. Unlike the afore mentioned Mayhem album, Azaghal add a bit of groove to their songs. Additionally, their vocals possess a more classic BM styling than those of Attila's. Overall, I highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of second wave Norweigian black metal.
