| Finnish black metallers prove their worth | |
So Catamenia got a new vocalist on this release (Olli Mustonen). Their website said "studio sessions were temporarily blocked because of unprofessional behaviour of some of the band-members" ,which led to former vocalist (Mika Tönning) being replaced. Fortunately Olli proved to be very skilled and very good at high pitch sceaming. This is without a doubt the Finn's best release to date. Good fast drums, good riffage, good screams, good folkish sounding clean vocals (Kakke Vähäkuopus), and of course good keyboards that blend very well with the other instruments. The production is clean and far better than most black metal bands. Most songs are far catchier and faster than earlier work. The first track "The Heart of Darkness" draws you right into the cd and leaves you wanting more. While the track "The Ancient" is nothing less than a black metal masterpiece. It also has two songs in their native tounge (Verikansa and Perintö Pohjolan). It also includes a well done Satyricon cover ("Fuel For Hatred"). If your a fan of the genre or the band then be sure to check it out. 5/5 or 9/10, which means it's realy good.
