| Destined to be one of 2009's best metal albums! | |
Homegrown from Madison, Wisconsin; Luna Mortis is probably one of the best new metal acts to come along in quite some time. As far as American bands go, I don’t think there are very many who could compare to their style. Their music combines elements of melodic death metal with power metal and progressive metal. The musicianship is top notch! Very well balanced and complex. Brian Koenig and Cory Scheider are phenomenal guitarists, and they provide amazing fast-paced rhythms with incredibly blistering solos throughout the album. Erik Madsen performs flawlessly on the drums, and delivers machine gun speed percussion.
Also, Mary Zimmer is one hell of a vocalist. She demonstrates a tremendous vocal ability as she transitions from impressive clean singing vocals to intense death metal growls. She can definitely hold with the best of them. Italy has Cristina Scabbia and Lacuna Coil. The Netherlands has Sharon Den Adel and Within Temptation. Poland has Anna Stefanowicz and UnSun. And now, the United States has Mary Zimmer and Luna Mortis.
All in all, this is an epic album from an extraordinarily talented band. Their compositions are nothing short of beautiful and powerful. It is truly a memorable piece of music that offers a glimmer of hope in a scene that not so long ago seemed to be in dire trouble, especially here in the States. The songs “Ash”, “Ruin”, “Forevermore”, and “Embrace the End” particularly stand out for me. Purchase this album, and you will not regret it. Guaranteed.
