Best of 2008
This was one of the best albums of 2008, though sorely overlook by the metal public. The band really defined themselves into a unique and seamless blend of Swedish Melodic Death and Progressive Metal.

Swedish death metal at it's best
Scar Symmetry, from Sweden, is one of those bands lumped in together with all the other melodic Swedish death metal bands. “If you like In Flames and Soilwork, you’ll love Scar Symmetry.” Scar Symmetry’s first 2 albums are pretty good, but feature only 2-3 standout songs. On Holographic Universe, pretty much every song is memorable. Killer melodies, catchy-as-fuck choruses you can’t help but sing along to, and it is painstakingly technical. In Flames is one of my favorite bands of all time. I never thought Scar Symmetry would be higher up on my list then them. Out of the two, this is the better album. I was only hoping they would keep going this way, but the singer left this year and they replaced him with two vocalists. One who growls, and one who does the clean vocals. Scar Symmetry’s singer could do both, and I think he is irreplaceable. It’s like the soul of Scar Symmetry has just been removed. We’ll see how it goes but I don’t have high hopes for the next album.
