As good as a debut album can get!
Sonata Arctica's debut album, Ecliptica, is simply one of the best power metal releases ever, and most certainly a must-have for the power metal fanatic. These are no Stratovarius clones as some like to claim; In fact, I would compare them more to Nightwish. The vocals are absolutely outstanding. The entire album is solid except perhaps for "A Letter to Dana" which outstays it's welcome. "Replica" is a great slow track while songs such as "8th Commandment" and "Picturing the Past" go blazing along.

If you're looking to get into Sonata Arctica, this is the album to start with. Their sound changes quite dramatically starting with "Reckoning Night" and especially with "Unia" but all of SA's releases are excellent and are worth looking into.
