First solo album from the ex-frontwoman of Nightwish. The music charts a similar course although not quite as heavy. Tarja's operatic vocal range is quite in evidence. The production has an epic feel due to the extensive use of the Czech Film Orchestra. The way the vocals are layered I'm frequently reminded of the production on the past few Within Temptation discs. In fact overall I'd say My Winter Storm owes more to the sound of Within Temptation than it does Nightwish. Interesting lineup of musicians including Doug Wimbish on bass and Kiko Loureiro handling acoustic guitars. Patience pays off - this US edition arrives with two live bonus tracks not found on the European import. (2008)
